Case 1 – Implant Removal with Super Breast Lift

Reason for Seeking OC Breast Surgery Specialist
This 55 year old patient from the Los Angeles area had never been happy with the results of her breast augmentation done in 2005 by a surgeon not affiliated with OC Breast Surgery. She went from a 34B to a 36DD after surgery. Normally, a breast augmentation gives the patient a new sense of body confidence. But when results don’t match the patient’s expectations, it can have the opposite effect. OC Breast Surgery specialists spend time with each patient in consultation to go over surgical options and most importantly, to set realistic expectations.

During her hour-long consultation with our OC Breast specialists the patient got to be heard and the message was loud and clear – she wanted smaller, perkier breasts. She was tired of being burdened by her large implants. She had no other issues with her implants. The surgeon examined the patient and determined that she had enough of her own breast tissue for a nice shaped breast without an implant but would need a lift to deliver the results she wanted.

Surgical Plan – Implant Removal with Super Breast Lift

Pre-Op Sizing
There is no sizing necessary when removing implants. She provided photos of her ideal breasts along with photos of breasts she thought were too big or too small. She wanted to to significantly smaller than she was and if she could be returned to a B cup she would be ecstatic.

Pre-Op Labs
Blood Test
All breast surgery patients are required to have a Mammogram or Ultrasound within 1 year of the surgery date. All patients must have a CBC and Basic Metabolic blood test to be cleared for surgery. Patients over the age of 50 must have had an EKG within 1 year of the surgery date.

Day of Surgery
Prior to surgery, skin marks were placed with the patient in the sitting and standing position. In surgery, the right capsule was entered and an intact, upside down smooth saline McGhan Style 68, 390 cc saline implant removed. The same thing was carried on the opposite side and a similar implant found. Ball cautery was used to tighten the capsule. In an explant or implant removal surgery, leaving the capsule helps to give the breast shape and added volume. The surgeon proceeded with the triple dermal tightening and lifting techniques of the Super Breast Lift. Liposuction was applied to the lateral chest wall and 75 cc removed from the right breast and 100 cc removed from the left breast and chest. The patient was placed in a surgical bra for support and skin tape applied to her incisions. No drains are required with the Super Breast Lift.

Post Op
The next morning at her first post-op appointment the patient was instructed to follow the Breast Implant Moving Exercises several times a day for the first two weeks as the implants settled into place. She was also instructed to continue to wear a support bra day and night. Photos were taken 3 months post-op. Scars will continue to improve for up to a year and become less visible.
