Case 5 – Breast Reduction with Super Breast Lift

Reason for consulting with OC Breast Surgery specialist
This 55 year old patient from Newport Beach, California was tired of wearing a size 36G bra and desired smaller breasts. She was realistic about her expectations and goal to be a 36DD after surgery. She understood the risks of breast reduction surgery, of which blood supply to the nipple areolar complex is key. Her main goal was to be smaller but she wanted very natural looking breasts. She did not want a lot of fullness in the upper pole. She also wanted her breasts to be proportional and in balance to her 150 pound body. She was looking forward to having her clothes fit better and feeling more comfortable in her body.

Surgical Plan – Breast Reduction with Super Breast Lift

Pre-Op Sizing
No pre-op sizing is necessary for a breast reduction. The patient provided photos of her ideal breast size along with photos of breasts she thought were too large and too small. These photos were reviewed with her surgeon on the day of surgery.

Pre-Op Labs
Mammogram
Blood Test
EKG
All breast surgery patients are required to have a Mammogram or Ultrasound within 1 year of the surgery date. All patients must have a CBC and Basic Metabolic blood test to be cleared for surgery. Patients over the age of 50 must have had an EKG within 1 year of the surgery date.

Day of Surgery
Breast Reduction with Super Breast Lift is done under General Anesthesia. Surgical time was 4 hrs and 30 min.

Skin marks were placed with the patient in the sitting position prior to surgery. In surgery, the breasts were prepped and draped in the sterile fashion. About 125 g of tissue was removed from the right and left breast. The patient needed more reduction after this but no more tissue could be removed by sharp dissection. An additional 275cc removed from each side. This gave a total volume removal of 400g from each side for a total of 800g. The surgeon performed the lifting and tightening techniques of the Super Breast Lift. Afterwards, the patient was placed in a support bra and skin tape applied to her incisions.

Post Op
The next morning at her first post-op appointment, the patient had very little bruising and swelling. She was instructed to continue to wear the support bra day and night. Breast Reduction patients are encouraged to continue wearing a support bra like the SheFit bra as often as possible to continue to support the tissues after surgery. Post op photos were taken 5 months after surgery. The patient is thrilled with her results. She has the smaller, natural looking breasts she wanted.
